Happiness
on loop: raindrops?
today is such a long day. i've been in school since 730AM and i am just dying to sleep. anyway, my next class class was supposed to be a few minutes from now (at 130), but i friggin' forgot to read the assigned readings and even left my book! argh. i decided not to go class then, 'coz i have a feeling my prof's gonna call on me and i sure as hell know nothing about our topic for today. i can't bullsh*t my way out of it since it's a Spanish class and i don't even know how to say bullsh*t in spanish *LOL* (toro sh*t?). so now i'm wiling away my time here in the PC lab... blogging. since i have nothing else to do till my next class at 330.
anyway, as i was bumming away in the library earlier this morning, i came upon a book left on my study carrel by the person who used it before i did. it was entitled "Happiness: A Guide to a Good Life" by Jean Vanier. it was originally in french but was translated into english. i found it inetersting since it was tackling such a broad subject... happiness. turns out, it was to be treated as part of a discussion on Aristotelian policies. i lifted an excerpt from the introduction of the book and am gladly sharing it:
"Happiness, whatever else people may say, is the great concern of our life. A brief inquiry will easily bear this out. We would have only have to ask people rushing to work, strolling about the streets, or chatting over a drink, "What are you looking for in life?" Some might say, "success at work, promotion"; others, "marriage, starting a family" or a "peaceful life without conflict," or a "salary increase, a holiday in the sun, a good time with friends." But if we were to press them further, "Why do you want to be succesful, earn a salary increase, start a family, or have an enjoyable holiday?" their answer would no doubt be, "Because it would make me happy."
To be happy, to know happiness, is the great desire of every man and woman. We may differ perhaps in the means by which we attain happiness, but we all want to be happy. That is our greatest aspiration.
Caught up as we are in the business of living and our various activities, it is true that we do not often ask ourselves, "Why am I doing this, What am I looking for?" yet this is the anavoidable question about the meaning of life. And as soon as we ask ourselves that question, we start to philosophize.
Why is a human being created? For what happiness? That is the question the Greek philosophers posed, the question central to Jesus' message in the Beatitudes. It is the question that has existed in the hearts of men and women of all times, backgrounds, races, and religions. It is humanity's eternal question."

sorry if it were a bit long... i just found the text really fascinating for some reason :) brilliant. i'm enjoying my Philosophy classes (hope i won't have to eat up those words in the future lol). hrrmmm. i'm tired. gotta go now :)

Sigh...
Sigh...
on loop: still Ben Jelen.
last night, i got to check out Ben Jelen's philippine promo tour in greenbelt 3 park area. my golly gosh. he is so much larger than life. the place was swarming with people, but the sight of him and his band there sounding just as good as ever (and looking as good as ever hehe ;p) was well worth the trip. *SIGH* he was so near... and performed in the midst of the jampacked mini-ampitheater, at level with his audience. he looks exactly like his pictures (refer to one below in the previous entry) and his video hehe... probably only sweatier. and CUTER! haha. well, not really :) his hair was all messed up and he looked exhausted as hell... but he was great all the same.
a million and one thank-yous to my friend BEA who accompanied me there, even driving all the way even if she couldn't have cared less for jelen (whom she reads as helen hehe ;p joke bey). i appreciate it. thanks talaga. sorry also for the hassle ;p you know what i mean.. "da cross country adbentyure", 5 cities in a night and back - marathon hehe. next time, let's stick to the yellow brick road aryt? also... for the cellphone incident (how embarassing)... my apologies. :)
and LISA, my dear, dear, dear friend, a most happy 20th birthday to you! thanks for the beyotipul prenship :)
anyway... Ben Jelen. *drool* 'nuff said.

Yellin' over Jelen
Yellin' over Jelen
on loop: Ben Jelen's Give It All Away album
that has got to be one the chessiest titles i have evr come up with in my whole life ever haha but then again who wouldn't be yelling? Ben Jelen's coming over to the pilipayns! he'll be having an appearance at the Greenbelt 3 Park later tonight (it's dawn already) at 7pm, and i am so going to be there hehe. i'm sure not everyone has heard pf him but i'm he'll be more prominent in a little more time. that great a talent (and a looker) can't be kept under wraps for so long hehe ;p for those of you who are wondering what else you can do on a friday night besodes the usual 'going out scene', drop by greenbelt... around 7pm ;p let your ears guide you.
*****
last night, my entire PC crashed. the operating system went dead and conked out. so today, me and my dad took it to place where we bought it and had it repaired. now, its as good as new! the only drawback is that they took out my old Windows and installed a new one so all of my files are gone, save for my mp3s and documents folder (thank God for backups). the dude who worked on our PC is an absolute genius! and he doesn't charge outrageous prices. he upgraded our pc, cleaned it all up and put in cool new programs for a measly 500bucks... and he was even shy to name his price! whatta sweetheart hehe :D
*****
woohoo. happy happy happy. i feel so light-hearted today. like nothing's weighing me down... sigh. wish everyday could be this way, but then again that would be boring and too predictable. might as well die. just kidding :) i love life... together with all the ups and downs that come with it.

great new find!
great new find!
on loop: Come On ~ Ben Jelen
i'm so into music lately. i've been indulging myself in downloading music i've always wanted to hear and buying albums (ripped though... not enough dough to get original ones hehe) i've always wanted to have. actually, for those of who don't know, there's this quaint little nook in the second floor of the Greenhills Theatre Mall where there are great cds! games, audio, video and what-nots. a-1 quality and cheap, too! audio cds go for 50bucks apiece! doesn't get any cheaper than that :) and for good ones at that. they have copies of hard to find cds, even mixed collections they put together that are actually good picks. that's the first great find.
the second one is Ben Jelen. he's a breakthrough new artist, a male version of norah jones and vanessa carlton, i think. not bad looking too, if i may add hehe. check him out. he has great cuts on his new album 'give it all away'. i personally like 'come on' :) hehe. i'm glad to have heard of him from a friend of mine a few weeks back. it's really hard to get ahold of his songs online back then, since he had just come out. probably now his songs are more available for downloads and file sharing. give him a try ;p
the third great find is kinda connected to the second one (and the first one too, actually). in that store in GH, i found Ben Jelen's album! not only that, the cd included a a number of music videos and special appearances. wow whatta find. all for 50bucks. money well spent :) i'm happy now hehe.
*****
by the way, do any of you know any language centers? a center where i can lessons on Spanish? i kinda need to find a good one, 'coz i'll be minoring in modern languages and i think i'll be needing some supplementary (outside) help in learning another language. hope you guys can help ;p thanks.

What a waste...
What a waste...
hearing: Mandy ~ John Stevens
there have been several American Idol reruns that are showing on TV nowadays and i've been indulging myself in them, being the bum that i am when classes are out. during its regular season airing, i was not able to follow the show since #1: i had no cable access and #2: school was eating me and my time up alive. so it is only lately that i am appreciating the show and its talents. and (obviously) John Stevens totally got my vote! such a waste to have him taken out. no offense, but i think he definitely held more talent and promise than George Huff and even Diana DeGarmo.
if Jasmine Trias weren't so cute and Filipina, i'd definitely put John Stevens over her. hehe. shucks. what a voice. hope they wouldn't junk such an amazing find like him. the last night that he was on the show, he sang 'music of my heart' by gloria estefan and n'sync. demet... whatta rendition. he can turn any song into a smooth mellow mix. however thats probably whats drawing him back... he really is more of a balladeer than a pop to punk artist. his voice isn't that flexible and versatile. but i hope he comes out with an album. i also heard that the show would be going on tour showcasing the finalists, but unfortunately for the non-american residents, its just going to be an inter-state tour... or so i heard. oh well... best of luck to him :)

God is at work. I have recently received an e-mail from my economics 111 professor that he gave me a passing grade!!! oh good Lord. i totally expected that i would flunk his class since i flunked all of his exams, lacked in attendance (i was either absent or late since it was a 730am class.. gad), and during the times that i was present, i was either chatting with my classmates, staring out into space, or what not. i hardly listened to his lectures. and at the end, i get this. a passing grade. i feel so incredibly unworthy yet thankful and blessed at the same time. i don't feel relieved since i have already accepted unto myself the fact that i would fail without a doubt. but i didn't. i could almost cry... my professor has a good and merciful heart.
Sir Jeff D., thank you so much. you have no idea how you just saved the educational career of this student on probation...

anyway, i remember this song a person i know suggested to me before. this person had a great influence on my musical tastes. the songs i learn from him are always good. that's why i always trust his judgement. one of these songs is 'Stick Around' by Azure. easy listening. bagay sa weather hehe Ü just got to hear it again this afternoon and learned to appreciate it again, most especially the meaning behind it.
Stick Around ~ Azure
How many times do I daydream
about making love to you
and take you to a special place
where it's only me and you
I'll put away all your troubles
on the other side of the world
and run my arms around your heart
and tell you you're my girl
So let's go steal away in the night
and we'll go far away from here
to the place where our love is right
can I take you to my world?
CHORUS:
Whenever you're sad
whenever you're crying
I'll be the one who wipes away your tears
Whenever you call
Whenever you need me
I'll be the one who runs to you
Giving my love
Well you know how much I love you
so you better not let me down
I'm not asking for too much baby
just stick around...
A quiet day in the country
or a rainy night in my room
we'll hide away under my sheets
after the morning comes too soon
an afternoon in your eyes
or a lifetime in your heart
forever just stay long enough
but it leads to take a start
falling deeper in love with you
will you be there to catch me girl
are you falling deep with me too
can I keep you in my world?
CHORUS
forever... forever
oh would you come on baby
let's go steal away in the night
and we'll go far away from here
to the place where our love is right
oooh coz
CHORUS
forever... forever. ##
*sigh*
speaking of sigh-worthy beings, John Stevens is incredible. what a voice *sigh* raised to the nth power. i wish he won in American Idol... but i guess his voice, albeit amazing, is not as flexible as Fantasia's. oh well. atleast i hope he'll come out with an album or something *rarr*.

moodswing: tired :(
hearing: kitties meowing
it's registration day already for me in a few hours. i got a really sucky number so i'll probably end up with all the horrible professors and class schedules. swell. just when i need to do great in school since i'm on probation. rarr. hmmm. what else is new... classes begin on the 14th (happy birthday lisa!) and that means i have less than a week to spend for myself just before my days in hell begin once again.
i really want to go to baguio with my friends but everyone's schedules are totally conflicting :( :( :( which is incredibly sad since even if i really really really want to go on this trip, i can't make it alone. we were supposed to meet up with our friend in dagupan since we'll be staying over at her house there fior the duration that we'd go galivanting all over baguio (ukay-ukay! hehe), bolinao and hundred islands (huling hirit ng sun, sand and surf ;p) and other places. i feel like everyone could really use this time off for a vacation. i'm really crossing my fingers (and toes), hoping that my friends would be able to make the trip...
during the past few days, i have also acquired a horrible new addiction. cocaine... LOL. i'm just kidding. actually, its playing The Sims. incredibly wholesome and harmless compared to coke and stuff hehe. The Sims have been around since the time being but it is only lately that i have first lain hands on the game and now i can't seem to quit playing it! harhar. how shallow. i'm actually really proud of my house, family and neighborhood ;p can't wait to get ahold of the Über cool expansion packs! (hint hint... my bdays fast approaching. hehe jk ;p)
also, three of my friends have put up their own blogsites! and have recently been added to the Links section. go check them out: raberdaki, peaches, and stained glass. interesting aliases, doncha think? go have a look-see... good waste of time. hehe just kidding :) it would be 'time well spent' (naks ;p). anyway, that's that for now. hopefully, i'll get decent professors and classes since i'll have to live them for quite some time. really hoping for that right now. wish me luck! keep safe.
